Future Dance Educators
Program
A program designed to give dancers the opportunity to gain valuable dance curriculum knowledge and team work experience perfect for college resumes and future teaching jobs by participating in weekly classes, attending monthly meetings with guest speakers, and completing projects throughout the year.
Participants commit to attending one class per week and one meeting per month. They will be guided by various CFDC instructors throughout the season, learning how to build leadership, communication, and collaboration skills. It’s a meaningful way to grow as both a dancer and a mentor and may even lead to future teaching opportunities at CFDC!
Participants will:

Attend their assigned class weekly. (Participants will rotate class assignments every three months based on availability.)

Set a good example and have a positive attitude at the studio at all times.

Exhibit an eagerness to learn how we structure and teach classes at CFDC.

Be willing to learn the Showcase dance should the class need a leader on stage.

Attend Dress Rehearsal and Showcase with their assigned class.

Learn how to teach various styles to different ages.

Learn organizational, planning and classroom management skills.

Learn how to navigate and manage different behavioral challenges in class.

Learn how to plan lessons to effectively meet the needs of students with varying learning styles.

Participants age 16 & older may be called upon to start a class warm up if the teacher is running late and/or sub the class in the event of an emergency. (These participants will need a work permit to be paid accordingly for subbing.)

Upon successful completion of the program and graduation from high school, participants may be offered employment at CFDC.
Structure

Dancers 8 and up are eligible to participate in the FDE program.

Class assignments will rotate every three months to provide a variety of experiences each season.

Dancers will attend a monthly meeting. Meetings will include guest teachers, Q&A sessions, project presentations, etc.

Dancers will present a project every quarter.

Dancers 15 and up will prepare a class lesson plan each quarter for the class they are assigned to during that rotation.

Dancers will be responsible for finding a sub for any assigned class they will miss, allowing another FDE participant with the opportunity to benefit from the instruction that week.

Class structure will include information and content specifically geared to provide knowledge to the FDE participants each week.

Dancers 16 and up, who are entering 11th or 12th grade, and have successfully completed at least one year of the program, are eligible to be added to the sub list. (These dancers will be required to obtain a work permit in order to be compensated for subbing classes.)

Dancers must reapply to the program every year.

SKILL DEVELOPMENT
Designed to instill the core skills participants need to learn to teach effectively by focusing on communication skills, classroom management, dance education knowledge, and successful teaching techniques.
Through classroom observation, guest speaker presentations and monthly meetings, participants will receive valuable information to prepare them for the future.

A structured program guiding participants who may want to teach in the future. Whether it be dance or something else, we will support participants in gaining the knowledge and experiences that may help them decide if a career in education is right for them.
We offer a safe learning environment that includes mentor guidance, peer collaboration and periodic reviews so that participants can track their progress.

SERVICE
Our program will provide meaningful opportunities to apply what is learned in classes and monthly meetings. Participants with valid work permits may have the opportunity for occasional paid opportunities such as leading warm ups and subbing classes. Letters of recommendation and employment referrals will be provided to participants upon successful completion of the program. Participants may even be offered a position with CFDC upon graduation from high school or college.
